The story begins in 1868 Cross Corners, Texas. Clay Reno has returned to his home town after three years. He has been recuperating from a gunshot wound inflicted by George Talbot. Because of his pride, Clay did not want to come home to his sweetheart Amy & his brother Billy as a cripple. He arrives only to find that Amy, thinking him dead is now engaged to George after pressure from her mother & father.Even though he's still in love with Amy, Clay decides that she has made her choice & it's a choice he will abide by & along with his younger brother Billy they commence to rebuild their ranch & start a new life.
The love shared by Amy & Clay is about to be tested even though Clay has accepted the situation, Amy has many misgivings & finds she cannot go through with a marriage she knows is wrong.
When I posted "some sexual content" I have to say it was only hinted & tastefully introduced. This is basically a clean, hard to put down book that any fan of this period of time in history will enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed this series & highly recommend it. Each book can easily stand alone & Rita writes in a manner that pulls you into the story immediately & engrosses you into each characters life to the point you feel as if you are right there partaking in the action. Loved each & every book.
